I have been fortunate to have been the president
of ACHIEVE for the past 7 years and have seen many changes for the better
over this time. I was originally co-opted onto the NEC during 1996 as a
student representative while studying at Lincoln University as an
undergraduate student. I held this position for 4 years and in 2000 I was
elected as president, which is the position I still hold.
Vice-President and Treasurer
Stephen Russell
For the last two years I have been the Disability &
Education Coordinator at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology.
Prior to this I worked in the disability field in several tertiary
institutions in the UK. During that time I was elected to the national
executive of the National Association of Disability Officers (NADO). I have
always had an interest in technology and this has now broadened to encompass
the use of assistive and emerging technologies in the delivery of teaching
and learning.
Administrator
John Goodrich
John will be working for us on a part-time basis
alongside his other work as the secretary of the Summit Road Society in
Christchurch. John has previously worked at Lincoln University and in
various administrative roles. In a voluntary capacity, John is Secretary of
the Home and Family Society, a Christchurch based social service agency
offering counselling, group education and emergency accommodation, and is a
Justice of the Peace.
I joined
the Achieve Executive in early 2006 representing community organisations. I
work as an Adaptive Communications Instructor at the Royal New Zealand
Foundation of the Blind where part of my role includes supporting tertiary
students. I am involved in a number of disability organisations and have a
strong interest in advocacy, tertiary study, women’s issues and disability
in general.
